Teaching of Industrial Chemistry was introduced at the Yangon University Chemistry Department in November 1966. A separate Department of Industrial Chemistry, however, cameinto existence in 1986. The objective of the Department of Industrial Chemistry is to promote and apply the acquired knowledge of the physical and chemical sciences to the widerange of production and processingindustries for the benefit of mankind and also matters relating to conservation of the environment from the effects of development of economy and technical advances.The courses offered for the undergraduates (including Honours students) are:
- Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry
- Stoichiometry
- Fossil fuels and their impact on the environment
- Unit Operations and Unit Processes
Processing Engineering Economics and Plant Design Post graduates degrees such as Master of Science and Master of Research students must study:
- Biotechnology
- Fuel Science and Environmental Science
- Inorganic and Organic Chemistry based Technologies
- Instrumental Methods of Analysis
- Food Processing
- Fats and Oils
- Water Treatment and Waste Recovery
Post-graduate research works are in progress in such fields as fuel sciences and technology, water and waste water processing, food science and tech nology. The Department offers postgraduate diploma course in Industrial Chemistry to graduatestudents leading to Masterof Science, Master of Researchand Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees. The Department also offers Bachelor of Science (Engineering) courses in FoodTechnology and Cosmetic Technology under the HRD programme. Possible collaboration areas are as follows:
